Block comments add a space when creating a new line

If I'm in a block comment and press enter, it always creates a single space on the new line (whether or not there is any such indentation on the previous line):

There don't seem to be any indentation settings that address this:

It's also inconsistent: When deleting a line and the cursor moves up it will delete the space on the previous line:
