More info:

I have 2 projects open, one is frozen, the other has a greyed out overlay on the window and a spinner loading something infinitely. Sometimes the windows are response but as soon as you open settings or change window to the other project it freezes again. The option at the top are responsive (File, Edit, ...) but window is frozen. Weirdly enough the caret still flashes but cant click anywhere to move it

Another thing, you cant open another file in your project, the window will be blank, you can open and close the tab but its always blank

Does it work if you install the latest version?
https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download/

If it still remains, please collect the log file from Help - Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data and upload it here: https://uploads.jetbrains.com/

Please try disabling all the downloaded plugins from Settings | Plugins | Click the gear button and restart the IDE.

Hello,

Could you please provide logs folder zipped (https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/articles/207241085-Locating-IDE-log-files) after reproducing the issue? You may upload them via https://uploads.jetbrains.com/ form.

I have the same issue.  It started a few months ago when I switched to the new UI.  I've attached my latest log when it locked up.

Hi,

Please try to disable the plugins and restart the IDE.

```
EnvFile (3.4.1),
PDF Viewer (0.15.0),
Bitbucket Linky (2022.1.242),
Latex Symbol (0.3),
Requirements (2022.4.1),
Ideolog (222.1.0.0),
TeXiFy IDEA (0.9.1),
Better Direnv (1.2.2),
Mypy (Official) (0.3.2)
```

If it still remains please attach the zipped log file which collected by the Help -> Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data menu. We need to check the freeze thread dump files in it.

Thank you,

I'm using all several of these actively, so I cannot uninstall all of them.

I'm not the only one having this issue.  Does it make sense for someone at JetBrains to try reproducing the problem on their end?  I'm unsure I can support this, given it's my primary tool.

Yes, we can try to reproduce the issue from our side. But even if we can reproduce it that does not mean the exact issue which users are facing.

Could you please upload the zipped file that contains the freeze dump files (Help -> Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data menu)?

I'm afraid that there are only 2 idea.log files in your upload previously.

It'll be appreciated if you can upload the zipped log file again.

Ah, my bad.  Here it is: Upload id: 2023_09_07_22kjiojwEYA4EkU4q48a9b (file: idea-logs-20230906-2205442599624385786604369.zip)

I can find a thread dump related to the Python SDK settings dialogue.

Do you remember what action did you take before the IDE got stuck?

The issue is random.  It locks up when doing simple things like editing code or navigation menus.  FWIW, this didn't start until I switched the new UI.

I think in this particular (it's been a few days, and it locks at different times), was I was trying to add a module to my project and assign it a separate SDK from the project's.  It just did it again (the module was lost when I restarted and had to re-add it).

It just hangs here until I force quit:

Regarding the freeze at adding the Python module, there's a known issue we are working on. > It locks up when doing simple things like editing code or navigation menus Such freezes when editing code, I suspect it's related to the plugins below. It's also hard for us to find the culprit unless to disable them one by one. ``` Latex Symbol (0.3), Requirements (2022.4.1), TeXiFy IDEA (0.9.1), ```

I disabled all the plugins that were not either Jetbrains or bundled, and I'm getting the same issue:

After force quitting and restarting, I it dropped the 2nd module I added.

Please try to workaround this by one of the following:

There are two ways of adding a directory as a Python module. The first one is to mark the directory of this module as the sources root:

Also, you can add a path directly to your Python interpreter. To do so, open Settings | Project | Python Interpreter, click on the dropdown list of interpreters, scroll to the bottom, and select "Show All...". Then find your interpreter in the list and click on this button:

Here you can add a path to your Python module, and it will be indexed once you click on Apply.

It seems the issue is separate from setting up a module.  I got the same issue, just opening the project and trying to look at the project's SDK.

I had to force quit.  It seems to be stuck on checking the validity of the home path.

Is there work around to this?  Can I downgrade versions?  This used to work really well.

I'm still having issues as well – I hope you can identify the issue.  I did notice an uptick in issues after the new UI came out a few months back.

Is this issue still not resolved?

After git pushing on Mac M1, it becomes unresponsive with a probability of over 80%.

This has never happened on Windows, so why is no action being taken?

Please try the 2023.3 EAP build. If it still remains, please share the zipped log file to https://uploads.services.jetbrains.com/ .

IDEA keeps freezing in mac m1 version "IntelliJ IDEA 2023.3.2" I didn't get this problem before this version. is like a memory problem, some times I lose the work done when I restart it, and after restarting the application it always re-opens old projects that I wasn't using at the moment of the freez.
