How to keep terminal session persistent?

I'd like to use built-in terminal in a split with the editor. I can achieve it by clicking `Move to Editor` on a terminal tab.
I can see this terminal buffer when I enter `RecentFiles` action when the editor tab is focused(with the terminal tab on the right, like this:
However, when I open a file on the right split(when the terminal is), the terminal buffer is no longer present, I need to create a new one. Is there a way to keep that terminal buffer persistent?
I'm using Intellij IDEA Ultimate 2023.1 on MacOS Monterey (M1)
