How do I refresh the entire project files index? Follow
When I create a file outside of RubyMine, the IDE doesn't see it until I go to the project panel and right click the directory it is in and then click on "Synchronize". Is there a way I can run a command from the "Find Action" window, which will refresh all of the files in the project at once? My goal is to refresh the files I can access using Navigate -> File without needing to open the project panel.

you can use a shortcut set for File | Synchronize for that purpose.
In addition, does it happen in all your projects? Do you have fsnotifier process running?
Yes, it happens in all of my projects. Is fsnotifier something I need to install? I didn't manually turn off any processes. It does seem like Rubymine isn't getting a signal from the OS so it sounds like you are on the right track. The main problem I am having is that if I add a file outside of Rubymine, I have to go into the project panel and right click on the directory and synchronize it before I can access the file using the shortcut to quickly open files (because prior to that, RM doesn't know the new file exists). I want to find the solution for that, as I am sure there must be one.
No, you don't need to install fsnotifier manually. Could you please re-launch IDE and check if this process is running.
Okay, how do I check?
you can check it from the command line or Activity monitor (checking active processes).
Oh, silly me! It is running.
could you please specify where your project is located. Is it on a mounted drive (or with any symlinks) or on a local one? In addition, could you please check if File | Invalidate Caches and restart help.
The projects are located on my laptop in ~/dev and invalidating the caches doesn't fix it. If I create the file in RubyMine, it will show in the project panel immediately. If I create it outside of RubyMine, it doesn't show until I go into the project panel, navigate to the containing directory, right click it, and click "Synchronize".
By the way, I update when updates are available, and I am currently running 2017.1 EAP5, although this problem existed in the 2016 versions too.
I also just found that collapsing then expanding the containing directory in the project panel will refresh it and show the file as well. I tested invalidating the cache as well, verifying that doesn't help. I actually missed that you asked me to restart when invalidating, but restarting would fix it even without validating. That is how I used to fix it before I found "Synchronize".
could you please upload your idea.log (Help | Show log in..)
In addition, do you have any symlinks in your project?
I do not have any symlinks. Your website only allows me to upload images, so I have put the log on dropbox.
Please note that I had to reinstall MacOS over the weekend so this is the log after that. I do have a backup from before I did the reinstall that I can share the log from when I get home tonight if you want it.
could you please follow the steps described in the following tutorial (checking the general configuration and collecting additional logs):
I actually ended up switching back to vim. Thanks anyway.
I'm sorry to hear that, but in case you have the opportunity to collect those extended logs that would be great. Sorry for the inconvenience.
