Local History greyed out for all projects but one

Hi,

I currently have over 15 projects, all in the same parent folder:

C:/Users/1/repos

A main project at C:/Users/1/repos/project1 which was the first, and contains several root and sources folders. Local History is enabled here. Now, whenever I one of the other 14 projects, the option Show History is always greyed out. Can only the first open project have Local History enabled at the same time?

Sure, there's Git available in all of the projects, but a simple Ctrl+D (Show Difference) doesn't work for any of the other projects. Any help?

Kind regards,

Wesley

Hi there,

>Can only the first open project have Local History enabled at the same time?

AFAIK No -- it works fine here for multiple projects regardless of the order they are opened (note: rather small projects with no big recent history and no VCS at all)

Maybe changes there (other projects) are just too old and now they are simply expired? AFAIK Local History does not keep history for too long

https://www.jetbrains.com/help/phpstorm/2016.3/local-history.html?search=local%20history

P.S. If you do "File | Invalidate Caches..." and restart IDE -- will Local History become available in other projects?

NOTE: the above operation will discard existing Local History (as it tightly linked to caches/indexes) .. so having backup of ALL those folders is recommended if you wish not to loose it (you may restore them from backup): Directories used by the IDE to store settings, caches, plugins and logs

@Andriy Nope, they're not old at all. Even new projects don't have Local History enabled. I'll try invalidating the cache, but was wondering if there was any other cause that might be the problem.

Well .. I personally do not know any other possible reasons or settings.

Maybe actual devs or support team may help you.

But I still would suggest to check your idea.log (Help | Show Log in XXX) for possible hints.

@Andriy  Did you resolve this issue? I am facing the exact same issue.

@Cmlicata

No idea what was causing this. Must be user-specific issue.

I have the same issue. Some projects have local history, some don't.

I also have this issue since version WebStorm 2018.3.1, Build #WS-183.4588.66 on macOS 10.13.6
Before the local cache was always working. I also get sometimes the message that the JVM Heap size is on it's limits. Could it be that webstorm therefore disables the local history?
