help with mouse/trackpad moving text

I am having issues with erroneous movement of code selections within the editor.  I think this is the result of inadvertent "mouse" input, due to my clumsy hands brushing against my laptop's large trackpad.  When it comes to editing, I am primarily a keyboard user, and would prefer to disable "smart" mouse stuff.  Is there a way to do this?
