Intellij Idea 2017.1 Freeze

I just upgrade to intellij idea 2017.1 and whenever I open a project and tired to edit a file cursor jump off here and there and it just hangs.

Is there a solution to this problem or I have to downgrade it to 2016.3

I am running 64-bit version and it's cfml file I am trying to edit.

I have the same problem - and filed a bug report here:

Thanks, please attach the sample file and the thread dumps to the issue that you have reported.

@Serge Baranov I have uploaded the log file to this url [] files are idea.log.11 and idea.log.12

I've attached my log file and a sample file to the issue tracker.  Thanks for looking into it.

+1 here this problem is killing me to the extent I want to downgrade back to the last 2016 version. Help!

How do you know that your problem is the same? It's impossible to find without the logs.

@Serge I don't know for sure. I am using WS to work on an angularjs project (framework: Meteor). There could be several different problems in 2017.1 which have the symptoms above.

As a paying user, I shouldn't care, I just want it to work. If there's value in the logs, I've submitted those in

Thanks, you will get a response from the WebStorm support team. Your problem is completely different.

Hi Serge, here is my Ubuntu 16.04. threadump from 10mins ago. I can confirm freezes with Java 1.8.0_141-b15 ( I assume latest)

I used to work with IntelliJ a couple of years now, and it is a great piece of work! I want to help, so If i can provide more information, just let me know!

Lars, your issue is completely unrelated, please report at with the logs and the thread dumps (both manual and automatic).

See if running on JetBrains Runtime works better (

Serge, I just rechecked and did not realize I was running with JBR, here is my version info.
IntelliJ IDEA 2017.3.2 (Ultimate Edition)
Build #IU-173.4127.27, built on December 25, 2017
JRE: 1.8.0_152-release-1024-b8 amd64
JVM: OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM by JetBrains s.r.o
Linux 4.10.0-42-generic

But, I will open a new issue, as you recommended.

Thank you for your fast answer and have a nice start in 2018!

I found that timing of key-freeze was closely coupled with IntelliJ scanning for changes / SBT compilation.
Sensing this could be a memory-related issue, I stopped using integrated SBT shell.
I haven't faced the issue since then.

MacOS 10.13.4 (8 GB RAM)

Still freezing while only opening files; CPU gets that hot, that ubuntu switched off recently.
