Storm 2017: Where are "Project Settings"

I am looking for the location of "Project Settings" for a current project.  I found a youtube video by jetbrains that shows the location.

The video (by the time it gets to 35-seconds) shows how to access "IDE Settings" and "Project Settings".

But I cannot find those settings on my version of the software -- 2017. The video may be made with Windows.  I'm on mac.

Here is the video:

Hi there,

It's now merged together (for the last 1.5-2 years I think) -- nowadays you will see project specific settings having "For current project" icon/note next to the node name:

Hint: use search box to narrow possible options/locations

The docs are still outdated. So things are still hard to find, coming from those ancient docs.

Hi Ralf,

Which docs do you mean: official help pages (PhpStorm Help) or Tutorials (Tutorials - PhpStorm).

1st link should not use any old images. If you see one -- feel free to submit a ticket at Issue Tracker -- they should keep it in up-to-date state.

The 2nd link (Tutorials) is rather unlikely to receive any timely updates on it -- originally most of those articles there were usual blog posts .. which usually do not have updates (unless re-posted as v2 or alike). But yeah -- you may create a ticket for this as well and hopefully support team will update them at some point (if they think it's important).

In meantime I may only suggest using search box in Settings/Preferences -- it helps a lot.

P.S. I totally agree that for a new user seeing old manuals (pics with old path to settings etc) is very confusing, especially considering that PhpStorm has a lot of configuration options so new user can easily be overwhelmed by the amount of new info/what to do.

Thanks Andriy. What added to my problem in finding the option was, that I use SFTP. And the option does not exist for SFTP, only FTP. I found no hint on that anywhere. Only figured it out by switching to FTP, then saw the option. So using the search box to find the Preferences would only have helped me half way ...

You wouldn't really have to completely rewrite the tutorials, just add a link towards the corresponding help page. And yes, the help page is more useful. But I only googled for the option, it lead me to the tutorial and at that point I did not think of alternative sources, such as the help pages. Further googling brought me here, to the forum. So, a link to the help pages on the tutorial page would have been super helpful.

Hi Ralf,

Andriy is not affiliated with JetBrains, he's just a fellow PhpStorm user but he helps others a lot (and he's awesome). :-)

I just added the Web help link to aforementioned Tutorials page with a small note - hope this will do the trick.

Hi Vladimir,

Great, thanks. You mean this?

Note: Some tutorials may be a bit outdated. You can always find the latest Help guides at https://www.jetbrains.com/help/phpstorm/.

Good thing. Only, I wonder who will find it there. I usually get to tutorial articles via Google. Just now I tried again to find "Project Settings".

Help guide: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/phpstorm/meet-phpstorm.html?q=project%20settings - not helpful

I know that File > Settings is actually the project settings, all of it, but new users might still be confused.

If you google "phpstorm project settings", this page will come up first: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/phpstorm/project-and-ide-settings.html
Which is basically the first page at this link: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/phpstorm/meet-phpstorm.html?q=project%20settings

> not helpful ... I know that File > Settings is actually the project settings, all of it, but new users might still be confused

This page seems to describe the UI precisely. What exactly do you find confusing there? We'd be glad to improve it.

Hi Eugene,

What I find there, under "Project Settings", is "Project settings are stored with each specific project as a set of xml files ..."

I have no idea what to do with that piece of information. And I don't see how that describes the UI. It just describes how you store the settings, about which, frankly, I don't care much ... What I really need to know is how to find these settings in the menus.
