Splitting Windows

I can't believe I have to ask this because its so unbelievably non-intuitive - but is the only way to split windows through the split tab option? Where the IDE duplicates a tab and doesn't leave it open if all tabs close on it? Furthermore - you can't drag and drop tabs between multiple existing editor windows? Is there no way to set up my environment to load up with 2-4 empty editor windows that I can drag and drop tabs into at my pleasure?

Hi there,

>but is the only way to split windows through the split tab option?

There are "Move Right" and "Move Down" actions (e.g. check context menu for the Editor Tab) -- they will create new split area and move currently opened file there.

>Furthermore - you can't drag and drop tabs between multiple existing editor windows?

You can -- works fine here (Windows 10; using mouse).

Unfortunately no. Empty editor window/split gets closed automatically.

https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-66407 I guess
