Tool windows on top of other windows in intellij 2017.2.1

Answered

Since intellij 2017.2.1 update, I've notice an annoying behavior. Often (but not always), floating tool windows, such as the Project window, floats on top of other windows. This includes windows in other applications. E.g., right now, I'm typing this into Safari (On MacOS 10.12.5). Although the main Intellij window is behind the browser window, the Project and Hierarchy tool windows stubbornly sit ON TOP even of Safari (or any other app). While the expected behavior is for these tool windows to float above IntelliJ editor windows when IntelliJ is frontmost, they should NOT sit on top of other applications, when IntelliJ is NOT the frontmost application.

This has not ben the case in the past, but appeared in the recent 2017.2.1 update.

First of all, am I the only one seing this (haven't seen it reported by anyone else)? Is there a work-around, short of reverting to the previous version?

I don't recall similar reports. Previous versions can be found at https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download/previous.html.

OK. Thanks.

The wird thing is that this doesn't happen when IntelliJ is just started. Windows stacking then behaves normal. The problem appears after using IDEA for a while. Once it occurs, tool windows remain on top of ALL other applicactions, even with IDEA in the background. It's very annoying. The only way to restore normal window behavior is to quit and relaunch IDEA.

I'll revert to the previous version, and will report back after a while once I'm sure the problem doesn't occur there as well on my Mac.
