Open Recent Project to be a Smart List
Answered
Pretty much everything in PhpStorm is a smart list, where you can just start typing and the list filters itself to show the required results.
EXCEPT "Open Recent Project"
Something that I dart in and out of all day as I switch projects is this list.
I'd love it to be 'smart' so that I could open the list, type a few keys of the project name, hit enter and that project opens.

Hi there,
It is kind of like that already (I mean the popup).
Which "Open Recent Project" do you use (what menu item it is)?
If you assign some shortcut to "Main Menu | File | Open Recent | Reopen Project" action in "Settings/Preferences | Keymap" .. then such popup will filter projects when you start typing (PhpStorm 2017.2.4 on Windows 10).
Another alternative (a bit more convenient to use as for me) is FrameSwitcher plugin -- clearly shows separation between currently opened and other projects.
Hey, I like the assignment of a keyboard shortcut the "Main Menu | File | Open Recent | Reopen Project"
Works a treat, I didn't know that there was this command, just the option on the file menu "File | Open Recent"
This is great!
So good I tweeted about it:

Would be great if CMD+SHIFT+P was a built-in shortcut.
Solution works on IntelliJ too: If you assign some shortcut to "Main Menu | File | Open Recent | Reopen Project" action in "Settings/Preferences | Keymap" .. then such popup will filter projects when you start typing
