How to properly update CLion

Answered

Hello,

I'm running on Linux Mint. Recently I updated from 2017.1.2 to 2017.2.2. What I did:

1. Clicked on prompt to update.

2. Download new .gz file from the page.

3. Extract to ~

4. Run clion.sh in bin folder.

5. Import settings from 2017.1.2 installation.

The problem I'm facing now is that I have two installations on my computer. If I launch CLion from my Menu bar or Synapse, version 1.2. is launched, not 2.2. So my questions are:

1. Can I delete the older version?

2. How do I make my system choose the newest version?

Hi!

You need to uninstall the previous version of CLion from your machine. To uninstall CLion on Linux you should delete the folder you’ve created when you’ve installed CLion. Also you can delete cache folder (~/.CLion2017.1 by default).

To create the program's shortcut for the new version please choose Tools | Create Desktop Entry directly in CLion.
