Please show your Project View panel -- the top part. Which "view" is currently selected there? Is it a "Project", "Project Files" or some other bundled or custom Scope?
"Compact Directories" option is NOT available in a "Project" view as it should show the file tree as is/without compacting. But it is available in other views.

It's on project view indeed
I changed it to "Project Files" and now it's working perfectly
I suggest showing the option as disabled and adding a tooltip text explaining why it's not available
