Remote development on a high latency connection - CLion vs VS Code
Answered
Hi.
I using the remote development option over ssh to edit, build and run sources on a remote server. My host runs MacOS and the server runs Ubuntu. Since the server is located far away I am forced to use connection with high latency (>100ms such that the latency monitor is often in red or yellow at best).
This causes file editing to be a horrible experience! Feedback and keystrokes are slow and result in undesired outcome.
On the other hand, doing the same thing on the same files, same host and server with VS Code works much much better! There's no lag at all.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to improve the experience in CLion?
* I prefer not to use local sources
Thank you

Hello and thank you for the feedback. I'm sorry to hear that you faced with the negative experience.
Besides the low latency, you need to have a decent connection speed and network stability. Please check if your server meets the system requirements.
We are constantly improving our typing engine and protocol. You can try the latest EAP version, it might help in your case.
I would also suggest you to create an issue in our YouTrack with all the details. This will allow us to investigate the problem further. You can find more information on this help page.
