WebStorm 2024 got very laggy?

I am using WebStorm and just updated from 2023.X to 2024.

On Windows machine but.. very powerful. i9-13900K, 64GB, SSD 990 PRO

But since the update I am getting a lot of lags after I want to auto complete something.

Yes, I am using CoPilot but that wasn't the case earlier. I have not enabled auto line completion by JetBrains.

Something is very wrong here. I get freezes like for 3 seconds and then I can continue working. VERY annoying.

Does anyone also has simialr problems?

Actually it happens randomly, now it lagged while I was deleting lines. No processes in the background

It must be https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/WEB-65787.

The resolution for this problem will be part of the next release, version 2024.1.1, which will be accessible in its initial Early Access Program (EAP) shortly.

Oh, I see. Thanks!

Does your JetBrains IDE (in my case Webstorm) also stop working suddenly?

0

Lalanne Andoni1 like crash? No, just stops repsoning at all for more than 3 seconds and then got unlocked.

Yes it's like crashing and I have to stop the application to reuse …

I can confirm. I have the same issue. Working is really uncomfortable with these freezes. However, in my case, the IDE freezes for a few seconds, usually only when I paste some text (CTRL + V). I thought it was due to Copilot, but that's not the case. Even after disabling the plugin, the program freezes quite often.

It must be https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/WEB-65787 mentioned above. The fix will be included in the upcoming 2024.1.1 update.

Downloaded and installed, but it still freezes for 3-5 seconds during processes such as analyzing code

Tomekszewczyk0  Please try taking CPU snapshots (https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/articles/207241235-Reporting-performance-problems) while performing the actions that cause slowness and submit them along with the logs (Help | Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data) within a support ticket

Yes, I have same issue, and it's a common problem among many WebStorm users. My friends are experiencing the same thing, and we are all awaiting fixes from JetBrains.

Check for updates. 2024.1.1 has been released

Same issue even after updating to 2024.1.1

Hi Kimiakhaki, I confirmed that it got worse for me update upgrade to 2024.1.1.
But if it helps, I went delete the whole settings folder .WebStorm<version> in AppData. Then everything seems better: no more lags 2 days up till now. (I know it sucks because after we have to reinstall all plugins, all personal settings, etc., but at least it worked…).

Elena Pogorelova Hi Elena, actually I did created a ticket about a month ago, they asked me to send the Logs as a zip filed but then they told me the logs shows nothing related to this!

0
Please could you share a link to the ticket?
0

Kimiakhaki as far as I can see, the ticket is closed because of no reply from you. If you feel that it's not solved, please reply there to get it re-opened.

Elena Pogorelova The thing is, they started asking several questions (aren't the log files supposed to answer them?) that answering each would take lost of time and effort for me, and at the moment, I was not able to put that much time and effort! I have attached the last email I received.

I have the same issue too after upgrading to the 2024 version. Am on IntelliJ.

I have the same situation, a powerful laptop, but constantly freezes(

upd: problem fixed by `Invalidate cache`, after removing cache all works fine.

I have had this problem too. Sometimes the IDE takes several minutes to start. I am on an M1 Mac with 32GB of RAM and have allocated 4GB to Webstorm. My latest attempt is 2024.1.3. No luck. It isn't something that happens in certain situations (other than it won't even start sometimes, and I've had to Force Quit when it freezes). This is a systemic issue. It just isn't usable like this. I don't like VSCode, but I might be forced to start using it.

Does anyone have a recommendation on the last known good version of Webstorm? These 2024.x ones are not functional.

0

I tried Webstorm 2023.1.3 (had it in my downloads folder). Extremely slow. Unusable.

It was fine ‘before’. I have M1 Macbook Pro with Sonoma 14.5. This suggests it is an

issue with how Webstorm is interacting with the newest version of MacOS?

0

I just upgraded to 2024.1.5 (clean install, runtime version: 17.0.11+1-b1207.24 aarch64) on macOS (M1 Max, Max Heap Size Setting = 24576 MiB) and WebStorm has become unusably slow. I've invalidated caches and disabled the "Full line code completion plugin, but still no help.

Most keystrokes take an arbitrarily long time and lock up the editor (sometimes upwards of 10seconds) and it's very disruptive. :(

(I also opened a support ticket with a CPU profile of an instance where it got stuck.)
