Quick documentation behaviour

Answered

I have 2 questions related to quick documentation because I am trying to not use my mouse in IntelliJ.

  • After I press the quick documentation shortcut for the first time it works as expected, after I press it the second time it pins the quick documentation at the right side of the editor and any press after that doesn't seem to do anything. Can I make quick documentation  to just close after I press the shortcut again? Basically the way it would work if I pressed escape after I press the quick documentation shortcut one time.
  • Is it possible to make quick documentation auto popup if my caret is on the method/class name? Basically the same behaviour if I had my mouse cursor  hovering the method/class name.

"Autopopup documentation" doesn't exist.
And the other is not clear at all

1. As far as I understand, you don't want Documentation tool window to be opened on the second press of F1.

Unfortunately, this is not possible. A quick documentation popup is not a “real” action; it's a trigger for showing the documentation tool window. By default, this tool window is displayed as “preview popup”, but you can omit that by clicking on the Documentation tool window

There is no setting "Show documentation tool window instead of the popup.

2. Unfortunately, the answer is negative. More information can be found at IJPL-31764
