PyCharm Cannot run R console on Linux (CentOS release 7.9.2009 (Core)) remote: 'RWrapper terminated, exit code 1'

Dear Madam or Sir

When I try to open the R console for an R interpreter created within a Conda environment on a Linux (CentOS release 7.9.2009 (Core)) remote I get the following error:

This happens if I try to use the remote development version of PyCharm 2024.1.1 or select a remote R interpreter for the standard mode of PyCharm 2024.1.1. 

This error seems similar to Pycharm R error -- Cannot run console: RWrapper terminated, exit code 1 – IDEs Support (IntelliJ Platform) | JetBrains. 

Is the linux version (Linux CentOS release 7.9.2009 (Core)) on the remote cluster the issue?
