PyCharm installation on ChromeOS 2024

Hello,

I am trying to install PyCharm Community on my ChromeOS using the Linux terminal. I have tried using Flatpak, the Toolbox, and direct installation with tar, but I keep running into read-only problems such as this one:

Cannot write to ‘pycharm-community-2024.1.4.tar.gz’ (Read-only file system)

Is there an up-to-date guide on how to install PyCharm on ChromeOS?

Thanks

Hi Kocherov ,

Providing an option to run JetBrains IDEs in ChromeOS is currently not on the roadmap, but there's a feature request for which you can vote.
If your Chromebook allows installing Linux desktop applications, you can use one of the third-party guides published on the web, for example, this one. We haven't tested this scenario ourselves, and we don't have plans on doing that in the nearest future. Since we cannot guarantee that this scenario works well, we cannot provide official documentation for it. We'll be happy to prepare an official guide as soon as the feature request is on our roadmap.
