How to update Pycharm?

Answered

What is the standard/correct procedure to update a licensed installation of pycharm in windows (i.e should I uninstall Pycharm 1.2 before executing the Pycharm 1.2.1 update?).

I could not find precise instructions in pycharm help.

Thanks

Hello joaquin,

You can have multiple versions of PyCharm installed in parallel. You can

uninstall PyCharm 1.2 before you install PyCharm 1.2.1, or after that, or

keep both - whatever you like.

Hi,

uninstall PyCharm 1.2 before you install PyCharm 1.2.1, or after that, or

keep both - whatever you like.

I think this should be combined with some option to easily remove the previous version when updating if you don't actually want several versions installed. As it is, I hesitate to update because I don't want to go through the uninstall-install cycle, and I certainly don't want several versions around (that might get confusing). The goal should be "fire and forget"-updating. :-)

Someone told me to update PyCharm so I went to the Help dropdown and looked but there is no option.  Why not?

PS: Searching help for update version brings me to pages of irrelevant hits.

PPS:  The reason I needed to update PyCharm is tried to start using PyCharm again after a long period of time resorting to vim and term because I have trouble using PyCharm, and ran into a bug in the old version.  This isn't the way to treat a paying customer who is trying to become dependent on your platform again.

What OS do you use?
On macOS, the update action is under PyCharm in the main menu.
