how long does remote connection stay open?

if i connect to a site remotely, how long does it stay connected?  for example i always keep the remote host there ( i never use the red X to close it ) ... does that mean it is continuously connected?  How does it work?

you know in pycharm, when you click "browser remote host", and you can view the server files?  that is what i am talking about ... i am wondering if it automaically disconnects if there is no activity after some time, or if it stays open indefinitely ..

Currently IDE will not close connection while you have Remote host browser open. But it will not send any keep-alives either, so eventually server will close the connection on timeout. See also: http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/WI-674.
