Macbook Install Doesn't Work (novice Macbook user)

Recently switched from Windows (decades old user) to Macbook OS X 10.8.5 (first time user). Cannot get install to work.

After download of .dmg single click brings up JetBrains PyCharm window. Indicated drag to Application folder does nothing. A folder appears but open does nothing and no PyCharm icon appears.

What PyCharm version do you use?

Do you have Apple JDK installed on this system? If not, please install it: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572 .

You can also try running under Oracle JDK 1.7.0_40 by installing this version instead of the Apple JDK, see http://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/entries/23455956 .

Please also try running this command in the Terminal and see if it prints any errors:

open -a /Applications/PyCharm.app/

The mistake was mine. My son showed me that I was dragging the folder icon instead of the PyCharm icon. Once I dragged the correct icon everything worked fine. Django installed OK too and now I am working to get MySQL hooked in. My struggles are lessening with each step.

Thank you for your reply.
