Git Compare functionality would be improved with annotations

I find the diff capabilities of the IDEs (IntelliJ, PyCharm) quite useful and have been using the 'git compare' capabilities quit a bit on a merge/upgrade project lately.  It would be really useful if the side-by-side diffs could also include the annotations for the files  to help provide a bit of history that could be useful in merging code and resolving conflicts.   IS there a way to do this today?  Any chance of seeing this supported in a future release?
