High CPU usage

Hi,

I've noticed performance in 0xDBE is quite choppy on my Macbook. Scrolling is jerky and even when typing there is a noticable delay for letters to appear in some cases. This is using an early 2015 Macbook pro, so a reasonably powerful machine.

0xDBE version 143.1301.4

I pulled up top in a terminal, and I noticed that even waving the cursor over the 0xDBE window caused CPU usage of 0xDBE to jump. If the cursor is over a console it jumps to about 50%, but if it's over a results grid it jumps to around 100%

Cheers
Tom

Hello Tom,

Do you work wth large sql scripts when you have performance issues or there is slowness even if no sql files are opened? What JDK do you run IDE under (check in Abou dialog)? Check if it help to change JDK: http://blog.jetbrains.com/idea/2015/05/intellij-idea-14-1-4-eap-141-1192-is-available/ .

For the investigation of performance problem, could you please provide CPU snapshits taken at the moment of high CPU utilization: https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/articles/206827577-Reporting-performance-problems and archived log folder: https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/articles/206827517 after IDE restart and reproducing the problem.

Thanks.

Nope, my scripts are only a few lines. Even when I have a blank console with no result sets open, there is a noticable lag between typing a letter and it appearing in the editor.

1.8.0_40-release-b105

I believe this is the one it is bundled with? I didn't change it. Is there known issues with Java 8? It is unclear from the post you referenced but it sounds like you are suggesting it runs better under Java 6?

I've done so, where can I send them?

We recommend to use 1.6 or bundled 1.8 JDK whichever works the best for you.

You can attach to a support ticket in https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/anonymous_requests/new or upload to a ftp at ftp://ftp.intellij.net/.uploads/  . Please also include log folder. Thanks.

Incidentally, for anyone else who comes across this post, I found that the issues went away after upgrading from OSX 10.10.3 to 10.10.5.
