Which versions can be installed from within IDEA?
I have 98.382 installed. My installed plugin is 4.207.
The plugin site at http://plugins.intellij.net/plugin/?id=1347 lists 4.263 available (for 98.382) but I can't get an update through the plugin manager.
Why can't I install a newer version using the manager?
Can I force the manager to install a newer version?
How will manual plugin install and managed installs interact if I choose to install the newer plugin (or a nightly) by hand?

Not sure why, but I could not upgrade either (I also tried with 98.402). Uninstalling and reinstalling the Scala plugin worked though.

Though this looks like some kind of bug in the plugin manager.
Even with IDEA 10, I don't get updates for my Scala plugin. I still have to uninstall and reinstall it every time I want to upgrade it. Is this a bug with Scala Plugin or with IDEA?
I don't get updates either and I don't know the reason. A workaround that is easier than uninstalling and reinstalling is to go to the "Available" tab and click on the install button for the Scala plugin. This seems to upgrade correctly from my experience.

I'm not sure where and how you expect to get updates. IntelliJ IDEA at the
moment doesn't have any feature to update installed plugins automatically.
A plugin can be updated by going to Settings | Plugins | Installed, right-clicking
and selecting "Update Plugin" from the context menu.

The issue is that the option you mention is not available even though it can be seen that a newer version is available in the Update Centre (by looking at the Available tab, for example).

Exactly. And it did work some months ago.
Currently, IDEA simply doesn't tell me that a new version is available when I open the plugin manager (which loads the update information automatically).
If you've installed an EA release of the plug-in, then the plug-in manager won't notify you until a newer "official" release of the plug-in is made.

How could I have installed an EA release? You mean by unpacking into the "plugins" folder?
I did only install using the plugin manager, and I suppose I only get released versions that way.

So I think anyone who has more than the Scala Plugin installed should try to confirm that other plugins can still be updated. Then we'll post I bug (though I still don't know against what).
