Can the Structure view start with the structure expanded ?

When I open the structure view (Alt+7), it is initally always collapsed. I have not found an option/setting to make it expanded by default, so I always have to click on the 'expand' icon first.

Is it possible to change the default?

Am I overseeing an obvious benefit of the structure view starting collapsed per default?
