RubyMine 4.5: How to remove a project correctly?

Hello,

I am a newbie to RubyMine, trying to learn Rails using RubyMine. So  maybe I have stupid question.

I am using RubyMine 4.5 on Debian 6 (Squeeze). At the beginning I surely make a lot of mistakes and so I want to delete projects from RubyMine. I found no way to delete a project so that RubyMine really forgets about it.

  • going to to Project Files View an deleting the project folder - a view seconds later a new folder exists again (nearly empty, only .idea in it)
  • removing the Project Directory in the shell - RubyMine still knows that there has been a project and ask if it should overwrite the project

The main problem is that creating a project again with the same name the "wizzard" for creating a rails project doesn't work correctly anymore (at least in my environment).

So, how do I remove a project correctly from RubyMine?

Regards,

Roman Fischer

You cannot delete a project that is currently open. To delete a project, you need to close it and then use any file manager (or RubyMine itself) to delete the project directory.

Thank you for your hint. I already assumed that I have to remove the project manually in the file manager.

But there seem to be a little difference of the behaviour of Ruby und Windows and Debian. When removing the project in Windows7 in the Explorer and starting RubyMine it work like expected. Using Debian (even having closed the project, removing it from the list of last project and closing RubyMine, removing the directory using the file managaer) RubyMine still knows that there have been and old Project (and creates a project Folder), showing the message:

The directory '/home/fischer/RubymineProjects/hugo1' is not empty. Would you like to create a project from existing sources instead?

But when I use "invalidate Caches..." RubyMine does not remember my old (actually nonexistent) project "hugo1" anymore.

Problem solved!
