Problem with RubyMine under VMware/Windows7 on Mac OS X

Primarily, I develop RoR applications on Mac OS X. But also, I am trying to run RubyMine 3.0.1 on Windows 7 under VMware on Mac OSX 10.6.6 for cross-platform testing.

I have successfully installed RubMine but cannot get it to run past the registration window that requests the licence key. The message dialogue that informs me of an error saving the licence data is attached.

The problem is exacerbated by the fact that RubyMine goes into a Zombie state from this point and must be externally terminated.

Hello Basil,

Please ensure that you have properly configured readwrite access for the given folder.

RubyMine is trying to create the .RubyMine30 filesystem on a Virtual mount point which I don't think can be written to.

Thanks, it is the reason, you can either give RubyMine write access to the given folder or reconfigure configuration folder in RubyMineXX/bin/idea.properties file.

Oleg

Thanks for the pointer to 'idea.properties'.

I edited the file so that every occurrence of the macro '${user.home}', which evaluates to '\\vmware-host\Shared Folders', became '${user.home}/Documents'. This has resulted in RubyMine successfully starting up. I will continue to test the environment.

Great to hear that this helped. Develop with pleasure!
