How can I have the git dropdown change on synchronize after branch change?

I tend to go to my command line a lot to run git commands.  When I return if I've switched branches the directory tree and my open files refresh to reflect the checkout.  The dropdown on the bottom right showing my current branch does not.  Is there anything I can do to fix this?
