Version Control > Quick List > Push Active Branches

Hi,

In a previous post Roman suggested I make use of the Version Control > Quick List menuitem. I find it helpful, but am confused about one of the options: Push Active Branches.

I use Git and in that menu there are two submenu choices for pushing changes: Push Changes and Push Active Branches.

I use Push Changes a lot and wish it was one of the "Quick List" choices. But it's not; in it's place is Push Active Branches. I'm not sure what this does. I can't find it in the doc and when I fire it up I see only one entry : the root of my project along with a "Status" that says "No tracked branch is configured". The View, Rebase, and Push buttons are disabled. The only buttons that are enabled are Cancel (which works) and Fetch (which does nothing).

So, for me a "Quick List" would include a choice for Push Changes. Instead there is a Push Active Branches which seems to do nothing.

Explanations or pointers to the doc would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Larry

Hello Larry,

Help for this action will be available a bit later. Push Changes... dialog is just UI wrapper for git cmdline command. If you want to push 3 git repo you should invoke dialog 3 times and always choose correct git root.  Push Active Branches.. action is much more powerful : this dialog allows you to push all your git roots at once, it displays current unpushed commits, allows to push only selected commits, allows to perform fetch and rebase before commit.

can't find it in the doc and when I fire it up I see only one entry : the root of my project along with a "Status" that says "No tracked branch is configured".

1. At first you should open Version Control |  Git | Current Branch... dialog and configure "tracked branch" for you current branches.

2. Select commits to push. If you selected not all commits you should press "rebase" button before push
3. "Fetch" button allows you to check incoming changes and do rebase (using corresponding button) if necessary
