Python Plugin Status Follow
Given the recent news of Sun's hiring of the Ted Leung and the Jython
guy (whose name escapes me at the moment) I was wondering what the
status of the Python plugin Dmitry started
(https://pythonid.dev.java.net/) back in 2006 was?
Does the version in the dev.java.net repositories work with IDEA 7 at
all? If the plugins 'mostly there' it'd be great to see some life kick
in and ride the current python wave with pushing it out there in the
public eye...

Hello Mark,
Yes, it's been updated for IDEA 7 API compatibility.
We're now actively working on that code internally - our recent work is no
longer open-source. I can't say right now when or how exactly it will be
released, but it will be much more powerful than the good old Pythonid. :)

I understand that you can't disclose the the release date, but at least some details?
Will it work with IDEA 7.0 or the target is 8.0 only?
Any plans to support webframeworks as well (e.g. Django) the same way
the Ruby plug-ins supports RoR?
Thanks in advance,
Ahmed.

Feel free to ask. :)
8.0 only.
For the initial release, it doesn't look like we'll be able to provide specific
support for any frameworks. In the Python world, unlike Ruby and Groovy,
there is no single framework which everyone uses and which must be supported
by any development tool. And we have a lot of ground to cover in basic language
support features.
For future releases, that's definitely something we'll be looking into.
