Is it possible to create a plugin that provides new expression functions for Live Templates?

I would like to be able to add new functions into the "Edit Template Variables" expression area when editing a Live Template. For instance, I would like to be able to capitalize the whole input parameter instead of just the first letter.

Any ideas on how to do this? I looked in the API, but it wasn't obvious to me.

The reason is that you cannot do it now.

Any update on this? I'd REALLYlike to have a variable that corresponds to the file name, for embedding in XSLT comments.

In the road map for the EAP ver. there is this bullet planned:
- User-defined live template functions
