[ANN] Duralumin - enhancements for the Alloy Look and Feel

Duralumin is a simple plugin, setting custom themes for the Alloy Look
and Feelto blend better with the native desktop.

Tested with build #3177, but should work with any build that uses the
same ProjectComponent interface.

KNOWN LIMITATIONS:
- the plugin sets automatically the Alloy look and feel every
time when when it's loaded.
- doesn't skin the tool-panel buttons
- doesn't skin the tool-panel titles

PLANNED FEATURES:
- add configuration setting for choosing one of the standard
Alloy themes.
- add configuration for creating custom themes, allowing the
user to choose colors from the color picker and the system
color scheme.
- add configuration for custom font themes in additional to
the system and Alloy's default.

Please also add an option to change the bold black font in the menu to
normal darkgray font.

Thanks,
Tom

currently the plugin uses the system fonts, but you don't even need it
if you only want to change the menu font - go to Settings > IDE >
Appearance, choose your look and feel and check "Override Default Fonts"
box.

Can you please specify what it does?
All I noticed at a glance was overriding the menu font (which we can do
anyway) and making the toolbar button tooltip color different (I am
using the green Windows XP theme) to green.

Thanks,
Amnon

Yes, that's all it does - it changes the fonts and colors to the ones
used by the operating system (in fact, currently it only supports Windows).

It could be useful for people using different color themes or larger
fonts. I think that the default colors for Alloy play nicely with WinXP
Luna skins, but they are too bright for my desktop.

See this screenshot for example:

cheers,
Dimitar

Thanks for explaining.

For some reason the color that the tooltips getis quite a dark green,
which makes the tooltip text much harder to read than the default orange.

BTW, what's with the name?

Amnon

The colors are not finalized, what I do is to read the properties from
AWT Toolkit and map them to an Alloy LaF theme. Since Windows and Alloy
use different schemes, the mapping is not 1:1 and it will take a few
iterations until I get it right. When the configuration UI is done,
everybody would be able to specify his own colors.

The name is duralumin, cause duralumin was the first alloy that came to
my mind :) Or you could say that "the term duralumin is specialization
of the term alloy".

Dimitar

PS. If you want to play with it, the sources and the Idea project are
included in the plugin jar. There is only one class and it's easy to
change the colors.

Hey, this is nice! Finally I get the nice Alloy UI but without the ghey orange/yellow colors. Excellent.

Any chance for the plugin to detect the currently selected look and feel, and only do it's work if the Alloy L&F is selected? For some reason (demonstrations, boredom) I may want to use a different L&F now and then, and currently I have to uninstall the plugin to do this.

Should be extremely easy to implement. Just check
UIManager.getLookAndFeel() instanceof AlloyLookAndFeel
before doing anything...

To open folder I have to use right curson, I can't open folder just press
enter key.

Hello dimitar,

Default colors in a menu. A selected line of the menu as you can see in attachment doesn't show clearly shortcuts. Black text with the dark blue background.

Best regards

Unfortunately, I cannot do much about this - this is the color scheme
that works for my color theme :) I'll try to implement the
configuration UI sooner, so everybody would be able to pick their own
colors. Until then you can either tweak the colors in the source
(included in the jar) or wait till the next weekend :)

cheers,

Problem when using "Windows Classic" theme on winxp:

In Settings -> Paths -> Libraries -> Used global libraries list. The list
is made of checkboxes and the selected line has dark instead of a white foreground:
the text of the current selection can't be seen.

Looking at all the settings I found, no other has this specific component:
a list with checkbox renderers - all of the others have checkboxes in trees
