Stupid question of the day

Has anyone put work towards an Eclipse-style error/warning hightlighting
feature. I am talking about the feature where a compilation error is noted
on the icon next to the file, the package and so on all the way to the
module. It is one of the redeeming features of eclipse, and I would love to
see it in IntelliJ. If it's already available, a little help finding it or
configuring it would be appreciated, as I've had no luck so far.

Thanks,

Jason

Not a stupid question at all. It's a commonly requested feature that is not supported in the core product. The APIs necessary to support it (either for compilation/error checking, or for writing into the project/package views) are not open, so no plugin has implemented anything like it.

Dave,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Since the APIs needed to add that feature are not available, what are the
proper channels to send the feature request to the good folks at JetBrains
to get the best response?

Thanks,

Jason

Search the tracker (http://intellij.net/tracker) to find the already existing request, and then vote for it. If you feel eloquent, add a response the the request, hoping that your words will entice the gods of software to grant your plea. If you suggest that they open some API for you to write a plugin, rather than code it themselves, they may sometimes fall for that. Patience is also necessary. I've got perfectly obvious feature request approaching their third birthday, with no acknowlegement of their obvious merit. Be bold, and yet humble.
