[Request] "Drawing Framework"

Hi,

there exist several plugins that use some sort of "Visio-like" drawing (e.g. SimpleUML). It would be great, if there existed some sort of framework, that can be used by other plugins.

So if someone want to build a Struts-plugin, he can use that framework and doesn´t have to think about those drawing-sh***....

What do u think? Does something exist like that? Can we use something like that?

Interesting thought it raises: an IDEA plugin can also be merely a library that other plugins use.
(At least now, while all plugins live under the same classloader.)

I'm all for a way to draw in the text/java editor area. From the very
simple (ex. the method separator line) to the a-little-less-simple
(insert gutter-like icons, ..) to ..
There are many requests around this idea, that can't be implemented
through plugins. A drawing framework would open the gate.

My +1

Maybe you are looking for JGraph
What is JGraph?

JGraph is the most powerful, lightweight, feature-rich, and thoroughly
documented open-source graph component available for Java. It is accompanied
by JGraphpad, the first free diagram editor for Java that offers XML, Drag
and Drop and much more!

With the JGraph zoomable component, you can display objects and relations
(networks) in any Swing UI. JGraph can also be used on the server-side, for
example to read a GXL graph, apply a custom layout algorithm, and return the
result as a HTML image map.

Yes - maybe this is was I am/was looking for :)
Thanks.

I hope it can easily be used inside IDEA...

There's also GEF under the Tigris Open-Source banner:

Yeah, and that would also bring new problems.
What if we had two plugins that use a third one but in different versions?

We'd need a plugin loading mechanism where different versions of the same plugin can be used in IDEA. Eclipse offers something like this. While I don't like Eclipse as an IDE, the plugin loading concept is a very nice one.
