Where can I find the log files?

Hi,

I have written a sample plugin, created a deployable jar file of the same
and placed it under plugins directory.
E.g MyPlugin.jar is placed under IDEA_HOME/plugins/My
Plugin/lib/MyPlugin.jar.

This is the general hierarchy followed by other plugins so I have used this
hierarchy. I have some 'system.out.println' statements in my code.
When I run the idea instance, I can see by plugin installed, when I try to
use the plugin, I can't see any 'system.out.prinltn' statements on idea
console. Rather no console is opened and also no option for console is
enabled in Window menu bar.

I have have used log4j (from open api) to log error messages, but I can
unable to locate any log file where I can find this information.
I am using IDEA Jdk and my I have also checked the systems directory under
Sandbox directory, but it does not have this information.
I have also checked with idea.properties file but it does not have any
option for logging.

Any pointers in this regard would be of great help.

Hello Priya,

To see the console output, you should run idea.bat instead of idea.exe. The
log files are stored under the system\log directory in the IDEA settings
directory. The log4j logger configuration is stored in bin\log.xml under
the IDEA installation directory; please refer to log4j documentation for
instructions on editing this file.

Hello Priya,

You probably already know this, but if you just want to test your
plugin, you can also run a second instance of IDEA from within IDEA
itself. System.out.println's and logging will then appear in the debug
or run console.
Look here from instructions how to do that:

Launching
