IU139-222 Welcome Screen Follow
Although I welcome the simplistic look of the new welcome screen (matches OS-X Yosemite) I find the dropdown lists for "Configure" and "Get Help" inappropriate because they expand outside the window when clicked. Looks wrong and really ugly.

Peter

Hi Peter and thank you so much for the feedback.
Talking about dropdown menu, could you please explain your reaction? Is it based on some real UI/UX guideline or it's just a personal opinion?
Btw, http://screencast.com/t/k4EmYNhM3jY http://screencast.com/t/5umjRvlD Anyway, your proposals on how to avoid this will be very welcome.
Hi Konstantin,
thanks for providing the screen shots - they reminded me that dropdown menus sticking out of their parent container seem to be common.
I think there is a difference between (temporary) configuration or file dialogs and a welcome screen, even though in this special case the welcome screen serves as a configuration dialog as well. Aside from the aesthetic issue a welcome screen should provide me with quick access to get started with all options clearly visible. Dropdown menus save screen space but they come with the drawback that I have to click to discover what is available. The submenu within the Configure menu (Project Defaults) is fiddly with a trackpad (see screen shot). But you are right, this is my personal opinion - just gut feeling. And I do not really have a suggestion. Maybe something between the old version (big icons with sliders) and the new - like a toolbar with nice small icons. An overlay window with icons for the dropdown menu functions would probably be too much. Difficult to do it right :-)
Regards,
Peter
