behaviour of Project Tool Window as tabs

I have a suggestion concerning the "Project Tool Window".
Would it be possible to change the behaviour of the "views" ribbon?
I currently have it set to display as tabs.

My problem:
I find it very confusing that the tabs somehow slide to the left.
The active tab is always on the left - and what is logically even further left is
not visible anymore. Thus I cannot click those "invisible" tabs anymore and have to
use the dropdown menu to "navigate to the left".
The way I work, I only need the tabs "Projects" and "Packages".
Now when I click on "Packages", the "Projects" tab disappears - not good.

Suggestion:
In tab mode, enable the user to pre-select which tabs should be displayed
(e.g. I want to see "Packages" and "Projects" and nothing else.)
Then when I select any tab, do not change the order of the tabs and do not scroll around.
Basically the way Eclipse behaves...

Would it be possible to improve the behaviour for release 12?

Hi

I have been thinking about the issue a bit more.

Another idea (maybe easier and cheaper to implement) would be to give the user an option to
"only display icons (no text)" for that bar.
This would allow all the tabs to fit into the space - and like that the reshuffling would not happen.

Am I the only one who finds this behaviour weird?
Do many people use the other perspectives (not only Packages and Projects)?

Hi Stevo

I like your idea.It quite usefull to switch between JSP and java editing.
Also the "only display icons (no text)" option somewhere in the settings should be quick and easy to implement.

Do you find a way without the annoying tabs behaviour?
Maybe there exist any plugsin which removes this useless behaviour?

Sadly I haven't found any plugins to resolve the userunfriendly behaviour.
So no way out to do the additional click.

Is there a offial way to set up an feature request?
Is there somebody who know how to make this feature request?
Will this be done by IntelliJ devs?

Cheers
