IntelliJ code style inspections Follow
I have setup code style rules for Java in IntelliJ -> Preferences -> Code Style -> Java. Is there a way I can have IntelliJ highlight any of the rules being broken in the code in pre-existing code? For eg. this particular file is using spaces instead of tabs etc.

Just reforma the whole project to get the new code style.
For the case of tabs vs spaces and indent settings there is a special option that will warn you when you are editing a file which indent settings are no the same as your code style settings:

You should already see the warning at the top of the file if indents if the file you are are editing do not match your code style settings.
