Load vmoptions from custom location

Hi,
I´m working with eap allways. As soon as one EAP comes out, I download it and install it. I find something really annoying. I have defined an IDEA_PROPERTIES env variable, so I don´t have to tweak the file every time I install a new release, but there`s no way to define an VM_OPTIONS variable so I can define an idea.exe.vmoptions in other location different from the bin directory, so I have to tweak this file every time.
Wouldn´t it be great to let users specify a location for that file?

In fact, the IDEA installer no longer overwrites the .vmoptions file if we
did not change its default state since the build you have installed (and
we don't change it too often). So you should be able to keep this file in
the default location.

If the installer does overwrite the .vmoptions file for you, it's a bug that
we'll need to investigate.

Propably, but I usually overwrite one installation with another with the zip file distribution, that´s why the file get overwriten allways. Propably the best way is to specify also the vmoptions file with an environment variable, so we can place it in another location, as we allready do with the idea.properties.

Hello Macho,

idea.exe.vmoptons file comes from exe4j generated idea.exe. exe4j doesn't
support custom location for vmoptions file so we can't either.

Hello,

Is this information still current? Some organizations, especially financial orgs, do not give developers admin rights on their boxes. I am in this situation now and would still like to be able to change the VM options without having to call our support group. Any update or suggestions?

Thanks,
Scott
