10338: Big Focus problems

Since the new EAP builds I have big problems with the focus (again). I am using Ubuntu 9.04.
Everytime an exception occurs (red circle of death) I loose my focus (at least the keyboard events are no longer recieved from the editor).

Most of the time it is possible to fix that through opening the exceptions dialog and closing them again.

Working with two projects at a time is a nightmare - most of the time one projects does not accept any keyboard input...

Hello Johannes,

We certainly don't have any goal of improving IDEA's behavior after an exception
occurs - we'd much rather fix the exceptions...

yes,on linux, after opening second project keyboard input doesn't work, but not always. I don't know how to easy reproduce it...

I also see many focusing issues on Mac OS X, not only when an exception occurs. The most painful aspect of that I've found so far is editing POM files with multiple opened projects... A real pain to not end up typing in the wrong window...

Yes - of course fixing the exception is important.

But I think the problem seems to be related to popups generally. The exception popup is just an example. I have this behaviour also on Ctrl-F6 or similar refactorings with own dialog.
Sometimes the dialog doesn't get the focus (need the mouse to fix that) - sometimes after the dialog has been closed the focus doesn't jump back to the editor (need the mouse again)...

So I think this is a general issue and really annoying. My mouse needs its naps...

I often loose the focus when using "Add constructor parameter" intention.
If the debug view is open (detached and maximized on the second monitor) I sometimes loose the focus and can't get it back to the editor until the debug window has been closed...

Hello,

I'm also having really big problems with focus (read: IDEA is completely
unusable), also using Ubuntu 9.04.
Something definitely has changed, whenever I open a popup, tool-window
etc. IDEA loses keyboard focus. When closing the popup/dialog, the editor
doesn't get (keyboard) focus back, i.e. I cannot write anything and this
is only "fixable" by opening a dialog, giving another window (like
Firefox) focus, switching back and closing the dialog/popup but most
times I must repeat this procedure several times.
The same "focus lost" problem often appears when switching to another
application (e.g. Firefox).
In its current state, the IDEA EAPs are completely unusable for me as
more than half of the time I'm struggling to get (keyboard) focus back to
IDEAs editor.
This also happens in a more or less severe form on other PCs with SuSE
but it seems to be worst on Ubuntu.
Didn't want to open a JIRA issue because there are lots and lots of
unresolved focus related bugs, so having one more probably won't help the
situation.

kind regards,

Messi

Hi again,

Sorry, forgot to mention: This happens in the last few Maia builds,
including build no. 10633, IDEA 8.1.x works fine, including build no. 9902

regards,

Messi
