Mac OS X - shortcut for selecting application menu drop down list

On Windows I think using "Alt-MenuItem"   allows you to select the application menu drop down list directory.  E.g. while IntelliJ is active application selecting "Alt-B" would give the "Build" drop down.

What is the equivalent in MacOS X while Intellij App is active ?
