Is there a way to report a forum abuse? Follow

Hello constv,

From time to time there comes an a$$hole in one of these forums who is
selling handbags or something like that, and posts spam. Normally,
there should be link in each thread to report such spammers. Am I
missing something obvious?

I usually delete such messages as soon as I notice them. I don't currently
see any spam on any IDEA forums.

One thing I do is make sure not to view those threads. I carefully "step around" them, reading the other posts, then use the "Mark All Threads as Read" link so they don't show up as unread when I come back to that forum. I hate to see the view count on these posts anything other than zero.

I don't know if the interlopers come back to see how many views their "advertisements" received, but if they do, it should be none.

I agree, but there should be a way to report them to the admin so they could be immediately deleted.

Given how responsive the JetBrains people are, I think they see these posts as soon as anyone.

On a related topic, I don't recall whether registration for these forums uses a CAPTCHA. Does it? I hear they're no longer as good as they used to be, between code to decipher them and CAPTCHA mills...

You are right, Randall, there is no CAPTCHA on user registration now.
But we plan forums engine upgrade in some near future that should add
both registration protection and abuse reporting features.

I'm not sure whether this is possible with your forum, but with our yahoo
mailing list we have the option to make by default all new members
moderated. Although a lot of spam is sent to the list (which we have to
moderate), we had kept the mailing list clean from it. We never had a
spammer yet who tried to write a useful initial posting to get unmoderated
before starting to spam.
