#8.0M1Finally loads project - taking 768MB memory

I finally upped the max heap memory to 768MB and 8.0M1 has loaded my project - but just sitting idle at the edit screen, it shows a usage of 761MB - and even as I type it has popped up the Out of Memory dialog - before I've even touched the keyboard. This is a project that could be loaded with the default 128MB max heap in previous versions of IDEA and was comfortable at 384MB (IDEA 7.0.4 loads it and shows ~110M heap use).

Something is surely wrong when memory requirements increase 6-fold just for a new IDEA release...

same problem here (windows and linux):
projects that loaded fine within v7 cannot load in v8 because of out of memory errors.

I was having the same problem and I tried making Xmx up to 1GB, until I decided to try increasing the MaxPermSize value .
I did that, I changed the Xmx value back to 512MB and increasing MaxPermSize, Iwas able to load my project.

This are my settings and seems to be working fine now:

-Xmx512m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m

I am not sure if there is a better setup or I am missing something since I read a post where Dimitri states that -Xmx256 should work for most projects .

Actually in 8.0M1 the memory requirements for initial indexing are indeed
quite high, and 256M may not be enough. We plan to improve this behavior
in the final release of IDEA 8.
