CVS never finishes loading folders

Our company has an older CVS server and I am having some trouble getting IntelliJ to communicate properly with it.  The setup and test connection work fine (additionally it is the same CVS string as I would use in Eclipse) but when I select to check out a project it starts to load the first two directories in CVS and then it just sits on loading indefinitely saying that it is loading.  Is there any way to get around this? This may be a show stopper for switching to IntelliJ.

Edit: I just tried importing the source directory and that allows me to use the VCS features but I am unable to browse or checkout a project directly in IntelliJ

Yes, there is a timeout exception:

The odd thing is, in eclipse the directories load almost immediately so I'm not sure why it would time out here.

What is your "connection timeout" setting? This is located in VCS menu > CVS > Global CVS Settings...
And could you also enable the option "Log CVS client/server output to cvs.log file" there and try again? The cvs.log is written to the same directory as the idea.log, please attach it here.

It was at 30 seconds. I tried bumping up to 300 seconds and got an error: E cvs [server aborted]: out of memory; can not reallocate 176160768 bytes.

Is there some easy way for me to send the cvs log privately? I'm not sure that I should post it where everyone can access it since it has names of a lot of our files.

Sorry for the late reply, but you can attach files to a bug report in such a way that they are only visible to jetbrains developers.
