Alt-Tab in Vista doesn't bring focus to IDEA if dialog window is opened

7323, Windows Vista

I open a File -> Settings dialog, press Alt-Tab once to switch to another application. Now I press Alt-Tab again trying to go back to IDEA but nothing happens, the focus stays on another application. The only way to go back to IDEA now is to click it in the taskbar with a mouse.

Yes, that's really annoying. A couple of months ago I've already reported
this issue, but I wasn't able to find it again.

I didn't find the cause yet. Will do my best to find it before the release.

Any chance we can get this fixed in 7.0.4? It's really annoying...

This not only happens in Vista, it's also happens on my PC, which is running Windows XP.

I would also be a big fan of removing ALL the modal dialogs: it's quite annoying when a you have a window open and there's something under it you need. Especially annoying when trying to copy and past things.

Maybe it is annoying if the modal dialog blocks the parent window, but it
simplifies everything a lot. Imagine, e.g. the Change Method Signature
dialog would not be modal - you could invoke it a second time, you could
change the method directly in the editor, you could remove it, ...

Hello Erik,

Removing ALL modal dialogs isn't going to happen: it'll make the IDEA code
much more difficut to write, and much more bug prone. If you have specific
cases when you run into such problems, JIRA issues are welcome.

(If all you need is to copy something from the editor underneath the modal
dialog, it may be possible to implement a special case UI for that.)

How about getting back to the original question: will this alt-tab bug be fixed any time soon?

Okay, I'll create a series of Jira issues for this. Maybe start with the Configuration screen?

Let's not hijack this topic -- if you want to talk about changing modal dialogs, start another thread.

I'm still interested in knowing when the bug in question is going to get fixed.
