Hello David,
Do you have an antivirus running? Such problems are usually caused by antiviruses
scanning the IDEA system directory.
Another thing that could help is defragmenting your disk.

I agree earlier releases seem to have been taking half a minute or more to quit - a couple of times, I thought IDEA had hung :(
But - release # 7318 has been exiting very promptly - so fast that a couple of times, I thought IDEA had crashed ;)
Ha, I'm glad I'm not the only one.
Before 7318 I could go and make a cup of tea while IDEA shut down, now it seems snappy.
