First time CVS Update takes ages for dialog to appear

Every day when I first start IDEA and load up my project, after selecting Version Control > Update Project, it takes quite a long time for the update options dialog to appear. During this time, my hard drive is churning like crazy and Process Explorer is showing a large amount of write disk IO for the IDEA process and hardly any CPU usage. Today, it took 4 minutes, the longest it has ever taken.

Unfortunately, I keep forgetting to prepare to take a CPU/memory/thread dump when this happens, so all I have is anecdotal evidence. And it never happens a second time during the day, so it must be some sort of caching or preloading. If I close and restart IDEA, the problem does not re-occur, except of course until the next morning.

This started happening in the last month or so of EAP releases. I'm using #7274 currently.

Actually, I've seen the same sort of delay in trying to do a build. I start up IDEA, and after it comes up I see that "busy" thing in the lower left hand corner which has the tool tip of something along the lines of "Synchronizing files..." The build doesn't seem to get started until that synchronization is done (which seems to take 5 minutes or so). Very aggravating.

my 2p too... I've seen behaviour like this, but I don't recall that it
was specifically building that does it... But in general, synchronizing
files seems to take a lot longer than it used to... I know there was a
big rewrite of the file synchronization stuff during this eap, just
wondered if this is an area JB are planning on profiling and optimizing
at all before release?

For me this seems related to a large "attrib.dat.data" file in the .IntelliJIdea70/system/caches directory. This file seems to be rewritten on every project open and currently is about 350 megabytes in size. This is on Windows, in case it is OS related.
