Strange issue when loading a project - reload without external changes

I'm on Vista and booted it a few minutes ago. I opened IDEA and selected a
project. Although I did not change anything to the project externally, IDEA
tells me that the project files were changed externally and it needs to be
reloaded. How's that possible?

Hello Tom,

The project files were changed after you ran IDEA for the last time. IDEA
initially loaded the project from its cached content and then noticed that
the actual content on disk has changed. This should not actually happen:
it should completely refresh caches for project files from disk content before
loading the project.
