Idea slow with large number of modules?

Hi all,

We're in the process of refactoring our project to make it more modular, and we're noticing that editing is incredibly slow. We had a large project that was conceptually split into small components (we're using OSGi), and we created Idea modules for each of them. There's a lot of them (currently 85 or so, and that will be going up). This seems to have made Idea extremely slow. We're not sure exactly why at the moment, we have a lot of project libraries that we'll be removing shortly, hopefully that will help, but if it doesn't we're not going to be able to go forward with this approach. Does anyone have experience using Idea with a large number of modules? Should it adversely affect performance?

Thanks for any help,
Colin

Hello Colin,

We currently have something like 180 modules in the IDEA project, and while
the performance isn't extremely fast (because of the sheer size), we don't
see any particular slowdown. As usual, performance snapshots will help pinpoint
the specific problem.
