Resource Bundle editor issues.

Good morning,

I have two issues (well, one issue and one feature request actually) regarding the resource bundle/property editor. I just wanted to make sure that I don't miss anything nor that there are already a bug/feature request filed.

1. So the bug:

When I edit my resource bundles in IDEA I can switch between the property editor (where I can edit a single file) and the resource bundle editor. Now, each time I switch from the property editor to the resource bundle view the panel on the left side (where all your resource keys are listed) will be re-layouted to it minimum horizontal size. That is really annoying. I added a screenshot where you can see how it looks.

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04, JDK 1.7u10 and Idea IU 12.0. But i had the same behavior under previous versions of IDEA as well. So it is clearly not a regression bug.

2. About the feature request:

It would be really great if there would be a way to link the property editor with the resource bundle editor. So if I edit the line with key "a.b.c" in the property editor that key would also be selected in the resource bundle editor as well so I can see immediately all the other values for that key.

So my question is: is this already possible in IDEA?

Regards,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

The first one is a known problem - http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-91218

Haven't found any feature request for the second one at the tracker.

Thanks for you quick reply. I voted for the bug and filed a feature request for the other issue: IDEA-97538

The both fixes will be available at the v.12.0.2. I recommend you to try 12.0.2 EAP builds as soon as they're available (planned for the next weak) and check if everything works as expected. Comment the tickets immediately in case there are any problems in order to fix them for the v.12.0.2.

Hey Denis,

today you guys release the EAP of 12.0.2 (123.95) you mention in your post. But I can't find anything in the release notes related to the both resource editor both. Also the behavior is exactly as it was in IDEA 12. Are you sure it should be in that release? Don't get me wrong - I'm not pushing. Just curious. :-)

Regard,
Stefan

Hi,

Sorry, I waited for the v.12.0.1 to be released and haven't ported the fixes to the 12.0.x branch yet. Will do on the Monday.

Hey,

I just did a quick peek at the most recent EAP (123.111) and both issues looking good for me.

The layout bug on the "Resource Bundle" editor it fully gone and that alone makes me really happy as it was really annoying.

And when I place the cursor on a key in the propery file that key will be selected in the Resource Bundle as well. Only downside is that it will no scroll to the selected key in the tree view. But I can live with that as it is much easier to find the selected key now then it was before.

So thanks again for both changes.

Stefan

Glad to hear that :)

There is no problem in adding support to scrolling to the selected key. I'll comment here when the fix is pushed to the 12.0.x branch.

I just did a peek at the new IDEA RC (123.116) and the scroll fix is awesome.
Thanks for all three changes, will make my work life much easier in the future and the Ressource Editor a really cool tool again.
